I’ve noticed an increase in demand for short films in the book trailer department. Although it’s not Hollywood, It’s still work. More Independent authors are self-publishing their books, and with today’s market, they are creating film trailers (Film shorts) to advertise and better promote their books. It’s basically an adaption of their book/story into a short 5 – 12-page film. Telling a shorter story to gain interest in the whole story. When viewers click the link provided with the trailer, it takes them to the book for purchase. The data shows an increase in sales because people are more likely to engage with a brief video trailer, rather than text and image only. Therefore, the demand for book video trailers increases.
As a screenwriter, searching for jobs in today's market, I’ve noticed the mass of work opportunities in this field. A writer today can make a decent career simply writing shorts for books. A professional short script sells for about $5,000 (industry standard). If a writer wrote one ‘Short’ a month for a year, that would be $5,000 times twelve months, which equals $60,000 a year annually (just writing one short script a month). I have to explore this field more, but it seems to be on the rise with independent publishers offering some marketing packages now––to their clients. This is great news for film production, especially the independent filmmakers, actors, and writers. If your rate is affordable, and you can do the work, there are opportunities in this field. Finding them is still a research job, but once you break into this industry, you could make a good living just writing or making 'Film Shorts' for Book trailers.
A lot of people laugh at 'Shorts', but recently there is a rise in demand for Film Shorts. Hey! It’s not Hollywood, but it’s still work, and each job goes on your resume, which will impress Hollywood executives when you get there. It’s all in the Journey. I wish you all the best of luck, and I hope you find this information helpful and inspiring.
