There's not a cloud in the sky nor a spec of dust in the air on this beautiful morning. But the seawater is muddy and fogged. Vessels are being lifted and removed by rescue ships. Canoes and boats take the place of automobiles that once drove and could go no more. Roads as rivers as if no roads had ever been built. Soldiers and dock workers stand impatiently at empty shipyards waiting for that docking moment to arrive with hope of salvation. The taste of fresh purified water on the lips of thirsty survivors after days of dirty tap slugde, and the low tide dead fish sea breeze lingering in everyone's nostrils. The media setting up cameras for that perfect shot as finalize their their makeup. The crowd suddenly arises in a roaring cheer so loud one cannot even hear the birds or even the waves as the rescue vessel treads closer to shore. The crowd screams in joy. They have come! America has arrived.
Location: Dockside Puerto Rico, Sept 2017, Hurricane Maria Relief.
